Abstract


Perkembangan cara merasa, berpikir, dan berperilaku berkorelasi dengan lingkungan. Globalisasi mencampurbaurkan lokalitas dan globalitas yang mengaburkan kekhasan dan melahirkan budaya baru. Pemertahanan tradisi lambat laun mengirap. Identitas, sebagai entitas yang secara terus-menerus terekonstruksi dan teredifinisi, menjadi tidak permanen. Syariat Islam, yang awalnya lekat dengan budaya Arab, tak luput dari pembudayaan ulang. Karena kian sporadik, identitas dapat pula terbentuk dari bagaimana suatu komunitas dirujuk dan direpresentasikan dalam sistem budaya. Muslimah di era kontemporer kerap terjebak dalam status quo ini. Didasarkan pada Pengkajian Amerika Transnational, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana Muslimah di Indonesia dan AS mengejawantah akidah islamiah sebagai identitas. Dicetuskan Bourdieu, konsep ‘habitus’ digunakan sebagai pendekatan untuk metode kualitatif. Sebagai studi kasus, penelitian ini menelaah pemikiran aktivis Muslimah di Indonesia dan AS, berupa narasi, orasi dan dakwah, yang tertuang dalam karya sastra, antologi, media massa serta jejaring sosial. Ditemukan bahwa Muslimah di AS, sebagai minoritas, mengejawantah akidah Islamiyah dengan mereflesikan keterikatan pada komunitas Islam global untuk membangun kekuatan. Mereka pun memiliki posisi subjek positif. Sementara itu, Muslimah di Indonesia, walaupun mayoritas, malah justru menjadi objek dalam relasi kekuasaan patriarki dan implikasinya terhadap subjektivitas.
